The highly anticipated route of the 2016 Tour de France was announced in Paris yesterday and it very closely follows four days of our Bordeaux to Barcelona cycle tour itinerary as we pass through the Pyrenees!
TDF 2016 Stage 8: Pau to Bagneres de Luchon via the Col du Tourmalet, Col du Val-Louron Azet and Col du Peyresourde is a near-match to Days 5 and 6 on our B2B ride, as we travel from Laruns to Bagneres de Luchon crossing these epic climbs of the French Pyrenees to stay in the beautiful spa town of Bagneres de Luchon.
TDF 2016 Stage 9: Vielha to Andorra Arcalis vis Spain's mighty Port de Bonaigua and Col de el'Canto to La Seu d'Urgell is an exact match of B2B days 8 and 9 as we cross from France to Spain through spectacular mountains to arrive at the gateway town to Andorra. From here, the Tour de France route heads north, finishing with the monumental climb to Andorra Arcalis (2240m).
These are a couple of stages with spectacular scenery, challenging climbs (both short and long) that are going to favour the climbers. Whoever is wearing the maillot jaune leaving Andorra is sure to be a strong contender for the overall GC in Paris.
It's no wonder both Le Tour organisers and Wide Open Road chose this route - offering spectacular mountain cycling through the French and Spanish pyrenees. We will be returning in 2016 with Bordeaux to Barcelona, once again timed to perfection allowing you to watch mountain stages of the Tour de France in the Pyrenees! Sign up now to reserve your spot on this much anticipate and very popular cycling holiday.
