Join us for a long weekend of gravel cycling in the Victorian High Country! Starting in the foodie destination of Milawa, we ride the roads less travelled to Beechworth - a gravel cyclist’s paradise!! We cycle through beautiful Mt Pilot National Park, visit historic Gold-Rush era towns of Chiltern and Eldorado and enjoy the gastronomy of the region - from local beers to fine dining!

You need to have a moderate level of bike fitness - able to ride 80-100km a day and 1000m of climbing.

You don’t need to be a gravel expert, but need a suitable bike for gravel roads.

Four days spectacular gravel cycling in the Victorian High country! We start and finish in the foodie destination of Milawa and ride to Beechworth for 2 nights. Beechworth has fast become Australia’s premier gravel cycling destination - “champagne gravel” roads with spectacular and varied terrain. We ride through national parks, beautiful forest, along rail-trails, through farmland and river crossings.

We visit historic gold-rush era towns and the food, wine and beer is a highlight of this gourmet region.

Terrain Approx 70% Gravel, 30% bitumen.

Distance 270km approx.

Average Daily Distance Varies with approx. 20km on Thursday, 90-100km on Fri/Sat and 60km on Sunday. Altitude gain on Saturday is around 1000m.

Bikes Bring your own - you will need a gravel or mountain bike. E-bikes welcome.

Group Size Small group tour, 12 spaces available. Limited single rooms.

Accomodation 3 nights - 1 night in a family run 3 star motel in Milawa and 2 nights in a premium boutique motor inn in Beechworth.

Meals Included: 3 Breakfasts, 1 lunch, 2 dinners. Enjoy outstanding gourmet produce, local brewed beers & handcrafted wines. A highlight feature of our tours.

Afternoon Tea / Aperitif Hour Enjoy a welcome aperitif on Thursday and WOR’s famous afternoon teas on the Friday and Saturday.

Start/Finish Milawa, Victoria. We meet on the Thursday afternoon and finish after lunch on Sunday. You can leave your car in Milawa for Fri/Sat nights.

Tour Highlights

 

The rolling gravel roads around the Milawa region - farmland, vineyards and a couple of punchy climbs, with views to Mt Buffalo and beyond.

Spending 2 nights in historic Beechworth, with its Gold Rush era buildings and thriving gastronomic scene it is surrounded by some of the best gravel roads in the country.

Our Saturday loop ride - Beechworth & surrounds gravel bliss!! We ride to Mt Pilot lookout, historic Chiltern and Eldorado and tackle the “Masons Rd” climb!!!

The food, wine, beer and local produce!! The region really is a foodie destination - we visit the local breweries and wineries and dine at one of Beechworth’s best restaurants on the Saturday night.

This tour is carefully planned with hotels booked to allow you to ride a spectacular gravel loop in the High Country. True to Wide Open Road style, we've booked great family run accommodation, organised a dinner at one of the region's best restaurants and have a few other surprises along the way.
